Battlebit Update Comes as Steam Player Count Drops by 90% Since Launch

The latest update for BattleBit is here, introducing several enhancements to the multiplayer shooter, including a new map, adjustments to XP rewards, and various quality-of-life improvements. This update, known as version 2.1.9, arrives at a time when BattleBit’s player base is at its lowest point ever. Currently, the number of players is only about 12.5% of what it was at the game’s launch, representing a significant decline of approximately 90%.

BattleBit update 2.1.9 introduces a new map called Kodiak, modifies weekly challenge rewards, addresses bugs, and implements various quality-of-life enhancements across the first-person shooter. It is released as the number of players on Steam has dwindled to around 12.5% of its peak at launch. The development team hopes that ongoing support will help expand the player base over time.

Kodiak, the new map, emphasizes infantry gameplay and is inspired by an Alaska setting, covering an area of 1×1 km. It offers multiple zones tailored for close-quarters, mid-range, and long-range combat. Additionally, a bomb shelter provides safe passage beneath the open fields, which are favored by snipers.

In this update, players will now see the remaining time for weekly challenges displayed on the relevant in-game panel, with the XP bonus for completion increased from 100,000 XP to 250,000 XP. Players are no longer allowed to switch their bandaging target (themselves or a friend) during the bandaging process unless they are tending to another player who moves away. Roofs now feature parapets to offer more cover during battles, and map voting is entirely random, increasing the likelihood of a map being selected, rather than a fixed choice. You can access the complete patch notes for BattleBit 2.1.9 online, which also include minor fixes.

This update arrives as the overall player count has steadily declined since the game’s early access launch in June. Initially, there were approximately 80,000 players in the game at one time, but daily peaks now reach around 10,000 players. This represents a decrease to about 12.5% of the launch peak, but there is still potential for player numbers to improve.

It’s important to note that BattleBit is currently in Steam Early Access, and a full launch, incorporating community feedback and fine-tuning, may lead to a resurgence in the game’s popularity.

While there is still a dedicated player base for BattleBit, the statistics from Steam Charts demonstrate a noticeable decline since its initial launch.
