Killing Floor 2 Gets Big, Free Halloween Update in Last Hans Standing

When it comes to playing co-op zombie games with friends, my top choice is Killing Floor 2. While titles like Valve’s Left 4 Dead and Turtle Rock’s Back 4 Blood have their merits, Tripwire Interactive’s approach to the genre offers a slightly tighter and more frenetic experience that, in my opinion, sets it apart from the rest. Now, to celebrate Halloween 2023, Killing Floor 2 has received a significant and free update known as “Last Hans Standing.”

Killing Floor 2 Last Hans Standing is a no-cost addition for the multiplayer zombie game that is available now. This update introduces a new map, Castle Volter, hidden within the Alpine mist, serving as Hans Volter’s personal clone laboratory. In this eerie location, he churns out endless copies of himself. The map is playable in various game modes, including survival, weekly, and endless, and it draws inspiration from iconic games like Resident Evil and Castlevania.

Luckily, Horzine has offered bounties for eliminating particularly dangerous Zeds, requiring players to target specific foes in each wave to earn substantial Dosh rewards. However, the longer it takes to eliminate these targets in a round, the more formidable they become.

Currently, the weekly outbreak mode is Bounty Hunt, but with this update, players have the flexibility to select any weekly outbreak mode they prefer at any time. According to Tripwire, this feature was highly requested by the player community.

Additionally, the update introduces a new backup pistol, the HRG 93R burst-fire handgun, which is more potent than the standard 9mm but slightly less accurate. It can also be dual-wielded. There’s also a new paid DLC weapon, the MG3 Shredder, a tier five machine gun that can switch between standard auto fire and special ‘shredder rounds,’ which spread out in a wide fan formation at the cost of firing speed.

The update also includes several balance adjustments, most of which are based on feedback from the player community. These changes involve making the Killerwatt more user-friendly, reducing recovery rates for the Head Hunter and Reductor Ray, and adding a crosshair for the HRG Vampire. Furthermore, three support skills that were considered underwhelming have been improved: Fortitude now provides a 10% defense boost in addition to its health bonus, Armor Piercing Shots grant 10% perk weapon damage along with penetration enhancements, and Zed Time Penetrator now allows real-time reloading during slow-motion sequences. Ammo prices for the ammo-hungry SWAT class have also been lowered.

The Killing Floor 2 Halloween update, Last Hans Standing, is now available. You can find detailed information about all the additions and balance changes in the full Killing Floor patch notes on Steam, courtesy of Tripwire Interactive.
