When the Finals Beta Wraps, Try Out This New Apex Legends Lookalike

I’m thoroughly enjoying The Finals; its vibrant, high-energy combat has me completely hooked. However, I’m uncertain about how to occupy my time once the beta phase ends. This is where Tencent’s new shooter, codenamed ‘Project RS,’ comes into the picture, as its beta is scheduled to commence right after The Finals’ testing phase concludes.

The open beta for The Finals is slated to conclude on Sunday, November 5, leaving a significant void for a multiplayer first-person shooter in our Steam libraries. Project RS seems to fill this gap, combining the futuristic art style of The Finals with the gameplay elements from Hypixel Bed Wars, a popular Minecraft server, and the ever-present storm mechanic seen in Fortnite.

While details are relatively scarce, PCGamesN discovered a now-deleted video on the Chinese streaming platform Bilibili. According to an external translation provided to PCGamesN, the game involves four teams competing for storm cores, likely related to the large purple tornadoes seen in leaked videos.

“Each round, a dynamic changing path will appear on the map towards the storm core. Collect the core and return it to your faction base,” the translation explains. “You can also steal from the opponent faction. Before each round ends, there will be a countdown timer. The team with the least cores will be eliminated. The eliminated faction will explode and will pop out all the cores. Players can take this opportunity to gather the cores and take the lead. Players can store up to 15 cores in their faction.”

At first glance, the game appears reminiscent of Fortnite, especially with its central theme revolving around a storm. However, based on a document seeking playtesters, the game incorporates “unique universe gear,” which grants powerful skills, giving it a more hardcore edge while retaining a cartoonish aesthetic.

If this sounds appealing, Tencent’s Project RS beta will run from Friday, November 3 to Tuesday, November 7, with participation on November 3 being mandatory. Participants must be available for two more days (three in total) to be considered. Please note that this beta is exclusive to North America and LATAM (Latin America).

The game is also designed to run on mid-tier hardware, so you won’t need a top-of-the-line graphics card to play. As seen in the sign-up form, the minimum requirements include an Nvidia GTX 1060 or better and a minimum of 16GB of RAM. If you meet these criteria, you can sign up for a chance to participate here.
