As the 2023 League of Legends season concludes at the Gocheok Sky Dome, Riot Games has disclosed the host city for next year’s tournament. The O2 Arena in London is confirmed to welcome the 2024 Championship Finals in November, as officially announced by Riot.
Following the hosting of the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational in May, League of Legends esports is set to return to the U.K., bringing the highly anticipated competition to London for the first time. Naz Aletaha, the Global Head of League Esports, emphasized that London’s rich history provides the perfect backdrop for League’s premier competitive event.
The success of the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational in London, with its passionate fanbase, played a pivotal role in bringing the prestigious Championship Finals to the O2 Arena. Aletaha expressed excitement about welcoming fans to the venue, where the finalists will share the stage with the many icons who have preceded them.
It has been almost a decade since the U.K. hosted a Worlds event, but the positive impact of the MSI this year demonstrated the region’s strong fanbase. Riot reported a 58 percent increase in year-over-year viewership compared to the 2022 edition of MSI, indicating the potential for a similar success with Worlds next year.
The O2 Arena, renowned for hosting legendary artists and bands such as Adele, Beyoncé, and U2, as well as major sporting events, will now feature esports, with the Worlds finals scheduled to commence on November 2 next year.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed excitement about the event, anticipating that it will bring together esports fans worldwide while also showcasing the city’s cutting-edge gaming industry.
While fans can begin preparations for next year’s Worlds Finals in London, details about other EMEA cities hosting different stages of the tournament are yet to be announced.
