Exciting news for those with an AMD Radeon GPU or a Steam Deck: Baldur’s Gate 3 now offers support for AMD FSR 2. Lately, there have been significant advancements in upscaling technology, making it disappointing for those without an Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-series or newer graphics card to be restricted to AMD FSR 1 in the fantastic RPG developed by Larian.
While AMD FSR 1 provided some FPS improvements, it has been outshone by more recent and superior technology. Although the exact performance enhancements of Baldur’s Gate 3 with AMD FSR 2.2 are not specified, it’s certain to be an improvement over the previous version.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was introduced earlier this year and received widespread acclaim. Our Baldur’s Gate 3 review commended its “engaging” storyline, labeling it an “instant RPG classic.” Nevertheless, the game can be demanding on hardware in certain situations.
Those of us who aim to maximize the game’s performance were slightly disappointed to learn that it would initially lack Nvidia DLSS 3 or AMD FSR 2. A mod was created to incorporate Nvidia’s most recent proprietary upscaling technology into Baldur’s Gate 3, although it has yet to be officially implemented.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 4 was released last week, featuring over 1,000 gameplay improvements and fixes. Interestingly, the inclusion of AMD FSR 2.2 was not explicitly listed in the patch notes, but it has now been officially added to the game. This enhancement should make Baldur’s Gate 3 more playable on the Steam Deck.
AMD FSR 2.2 represents the latest version of AMD’s upscaling technology, which is designed to reduce “High-Velocity Ghosting,” a well-known issue that affects racing games in particular.
While they cannot utilize DLSS 3, the most recent AMD Radeon GPUs have made impressive contributions to the current generation of graphics cards. If you are in the market for a new GPU, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT is the top choice for under $500.
