Cloud9’s mid laner, Jang “EMENES” Min-soo, has issued an apology due to the criticism he faced from the League of Legends community for comments he made toward a European professional player during a solo queue match last week.
EMENES expressed deep regret to his fans for his remarks directed at the European streamer Spear_shot during a solo queue match on September 14th. He posted this apology on his Twitter account just over four days after the incident. He mentioned that he had a private conversation with Spear_shot late last week and also offered a personal apology today.
In his statement, EMENES acknowledged that his actions were indefensible and recognized the impact of his in-game words. He emphasized that, as a representative of his League team, he projected an unprofessional and irresponsible image.
The 22-year-old faced criticism following his behavior in a Korean League solo queue match, where he accused his top lane teammate, Spear_shot, of griefing and referred to him as a “disgusting EU streamer.”
Initially, EMENES apologized to his fans but did not extend an apology to Spear_shot. Instead, he reiterated his comments made during the match and suggested that the European streamer was bending the rules for the sake of viewership by selecting a specific champion and intentionally disrupting the game when things didn’t go his way.
Spear_shot responded to these allegations by revealing EMENES’s original chat messages, explaining his side of the story, and defending his in-game actions.
Cloud9 had initially stated that they were handling the incident internally, and today’s statement from EMENES appears to be the result of their internal investigation. It remains to be seen if Riot Games will take any further action against the mid laner.
EMENES and Cloud9 are currently preparing for this year’s edition of Worlds, which is a home tournament for EMENES in Seoul and is set to begin in early October.
