Bwipo Blasts LoL Pros Who Excessively Flame Teammates in Solo Queue

Toxicity remains an ongoing issue in League of Legends, affecting players at all levels of the game, from casual matches to high-stakes solo queue matches. The problem escalates further when professional players contribute to the toxicity by needlessly criticizing their teammates during their own games, much to the disappointment of experienced players.

For instance, in a recent livestream, Team Liquid’s top laner, Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau, expressed his frustration with toxic professional players, describing them as “unappreciative” and “immature” individuals who fail to recognize the privilege of pursuing a career in competitive League of Legends. Bwipo pointed out that without the continued interest of average players beyond their solo queue experiences, these toxic pro players wouldn’t have a job, as fans are the driving force behind the competitive scene. The League community’s support has been instrumental in making the competitive scene as successful and extensive as it is today.

He emphasized, “You should respect the people playing alongside you and appreciate the opportunity to earn a living through this game. It’s a privilege to have less skilled players engaged in high-level play. So, when pro players actively engage in disputes with average players who play the game for fun and berate them for their performance, it reflects poorly on their maturity.”

Numerous instances of pro players displaying toxicity in solo queue have emerged, ranging from excessive trash talk to griefing. For example, Cloud9’s mid laner, EMENES, was caught making derogatory comments toward a teammate, including phrases like “disgusting EU streamer” and suggesting they should “return to their own country.” He later issued an apology, but Riot Games imposed fines and mandated professional development training to address his unprofessional behavior.

While it’s understandable that some players may feel the need to defend themselves when attacked, excessive toxicity is detrimental not only to their personal image but also reflects poorly on their teammates, organizations, and the esports community as a whole.
