Cities Skylines 2 Paid DLC Isn’t Happening Until The Game is Fixed

Cities Skylines 2 is not expected to receive paid DLC in the near future, as Colossal Order has confirmed that they will not release new paid content until they have addressed the various technical issues plaguing the game. Despite significant improvements in road construction, building tools, and services, Cities Skylines 2 continues to experience performance problems, including long loading times, stuttering, and freezing, even on high-end PCs. While the developers have outlined plans for changes in garbage processing, bug fixes, and future content updates, they have made it clear that they will not introduce paid DLC until the game’s performance is significantly improved.

The game still maintains a ‘mixed’ rating on Steam due to player-reported issues, such as freezes, stuttering, texture pop-in, and more. While there is an expectation of numerous Cities Skylines 2 DLC expansions to enhance the core experience, Colossal Order is committed to prioritizing performance improvements before releasing premium content.

Colossal Order stated, “While on the topic of DLCs, we will not release new paid content for Cities Skylines 2 before the outstanding performance issues are fixed to our standards. As a small team, we must focus on the task at hand to avoid spreading too thin. We are also very much looking forward to starting to go through your suggestions for Cities Skylines 2, such as adding some beloved quality-of-life improvements already familiar from the predecessor that were missed in the sequel due to priorities and time constraints. My pledge to you is that Colossal Order will keep working on Cities Skylines 2 until it reaches its full potential.”

In addition to addressing performance issues, Colossal Order is also working on improving garbage collection in the game and resolving problems related to stray dogs overrunning the streets. They mentioned that they are considering the possibility of introducing an animal shelter DLC with various policies and rescue animals.

The most recent Cities Skylines 2 patch aims to alleviate performance issues by optimizing lighting effects, enhancing level-of-detail calculations, and reducing unnecessary texture resolutions. The patch also includes balancing adjustments to the in-depth in-game economy.
