TheShy stands on the brink of making history on November 19. Should Weibo Gaming triumph over T1 in the Worlds 2023 final, he would become the second top laner to secure two Summoner’s Cups. While many believe that such an accomplishment would solidify his status as the best top laner globally, TheShy holds a different perspective.
In a press conference on November 15, TheShy expressed the difficulty in determining the best top laner, considering it a passive role that doesn’t necessarily carry games. He stated, “Top lane is not a role that carries games, so even if I win the World Cup, I don’t think I would become the greatest top laner of all time. I don’t think you can discuss the concept of being the best top laner of all time.”
Duke, a Korean top laner, is the only player to have won two Worlds before, achieving this feat in 2016 with SKT and in 2018 as Invictus Gaming’s substitute top laner. However, TheShy, who served as IG’s starting top laner in 2018, is widely regarded as the driving force behind the team’s success that year.
The upcoming Worlds final is certain to make history, as at least one player will secure another Worlds trophy. Crisp, TheShy’s teammate, previously won with FPX in 2019. If Weibo emerges victorious, Crisp will become the third support to claim two Summoner’s Cups, following Wolf and BeryL. Conversely, if T1 emerges victorious, Faker will secure his fourth title.
Regardless of the outcome, the final promises to be an exhilarating spectacle, commencing at 2 am on Sunday, November 19. It’s an event not to be missed.
