Diablo 4’s Living Steel has recently become a highly sought-after commodity in Sanctuary. It plays a crucial role in summoning the endgame boss Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint, and subsequently Uber Duriel. These rare items are exclusively available during the time-gated Helltide events. Responding to player feedback, Blizzard has introduced a hotfix for Diablo 4 to address concerns about drop rates and chest-related issues.
The primary problem with the initial Diablo 4 Living Steel drops was their scarcity. Given that Helltide events occur only every two and a quarter hours, and 300 Aberrant Cinders are needed to open the chests, obtaining enough Living Steel posed a challenge. To summon Grigoire on World Tier 3, two Living Steel are required, and for World Tier 4, five are needed. Furthermore, two Shards of Agony from Grigoire are crucial to summon Uber Duriel. This extensive grinding process became more challenging as players reported problems with the phasing and bugs of the Tortured Gifts of Living Steel chests.
In response to these issues, Blizzard has fulfilled its promise of a hotfix. Drop rates on World Tier 3 have been increased from one Living Steel to two, with a chance of an additional one or two drops. On World Tier 4, the rates have been raised from three to five, with a chance drop of five. All other Helltide chests will now consistently drop one Living Steel on World Tier 4.
Moreover, the hotfix addresses problems with Living Steel Chests phasing during opening. Blizzard has removed Living Steel Chest Guardian monsters as part of the fix, improving chest functionality temporarily. However, they express the intention to reintroduce the guardian once they can ensure that this interaction does not cause further issues.
This hotfix is seen as a necessary improvement, maintaining the integrity of Grigoire as a challenging boss while easing the overall grind for players. For those invested in optimizing their gameplay, a list of the best Diablo 4 builds is recommended to prepare for battles against The Lord of Pain and his minions.
