During the FFXIV Fanfest event in London, Naoki Yoshida, the game director and producer, expressed his desire for a collaboration that has always been a dream for him, even though he has concerns about the compatibility of the two games. Known as Yoshi-P, a prominent Blizzard fan, Yoshida mentioned that working with the Diablo franchise would be a dream come true, but he acknowledged that the “hardcore” design of Diablo might present challenges when merging it with the world of Final Fantasy 14.
Speaking at a press event attended by PCGamesN, Yoshida was asked about his dream collaboration for FFXIV. The MMORPG has already featured numerous crossovers over the years, including Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, Yo-kai Watch, and several with other Final Fantasy titles. Yoshida emphasized that he wants any collaboration to be done “in a way that fans of both franchises would be happy.”
Yoshida also shared insights into his past collaborations. With the Monster Hunter crossover, which saw FFXIV players facing the iconic red dragon Rathalos while Final Fantasy’s Behemoth appeared as a foe in Monster Hunter World, Yoshida had envisioned it for a long time and discussed the idea with the Monster Hunter team. In contrast, the upcoming Fall Guys collaboration was initiated by the Fall Guys team, and Square Enix Europe was approached about the possibility of a collaboration.
Yoshida mentioned that their policy is to create crossovers rather than just costumes, generating excitement throughout the industry. He stated that if a crossover would bring joy to FFXIV players, they are eager to pursue it.
