The new game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega has already garnered impressive player numbers shortly after its release. Surpassing its predecessors on Valve’s PC gaming platform, The Man Who Erased His Name has outpaced other 2023 entries like Ishin.
As the latest open-world addition to the Yakuza series, Like a Dragon Gaiden is rapidly gaining a dedicated fanbase. It currently stands as RGG Studio’s most-played launch on Steam, quickly climbing the platform’s ranking charts. On its release day, Like a Dragon Gaiden achieved the highest peak player count of any previous Yakuza game from RGG Studio.
Within the first 24 hours, the game saw a peak of approximately 9,743 players, surpassing the second-most popular Yakuza title, Like a Dragon (2020), with a peak player count of 9,535. Yakuza 0 (2018) holds the series’ third-largest entry on the player-based charts, reaching a peak of 8,985. The impressive Steam rating and these player numbers are particularly noteworthy given that Like a Dragon Gaiden has not been available to the public for a full day.
Ranked among the top ten-selling games on Steam, just behind Modern Warfare 3 and Apex Legends, The Man Who Erased His Name has surpassed fellow 2023 Yakuza release Ishin, which holds a peak player count of 8,461 on Steam’s charts. The upcoming Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth release this winter is anticipated to further contribute to the series’ success.
While Like a Dragon Gaiden’s Steam release demonstrates its popularity, it does not provide a comprehensive overview of the game’s overall success on PC.
