Bungie has not officially announced any delay for Destiny 2: The Final Shape, but there are indications on the expansion’s product page that suggest a possible postponement. Initially scheduled for release on February 27, 2024, internal sources are now suggesting a new target release date in June 2024.
After staff layoffs at Bungie in late October 2023, former anonymous Destiny 2 developers reportedly spoke to Jason Schrier at Bloomberg, revealing an alleged confirmed delay to The Final Shape’s release date that surfaced “a couple of months” ago.
Although Bungie CEO Pete Parsons acknowledged a “sad day” at Bungie in response to the layoffs on X (formerly Twitter), he did not provide details on the extent of the layoffs or address rumors circulating on social media about the potential delay of The Final Shape expansion for the ongoing MMORPG.
In a press release from Bungie’s PR representatives on November 14, 2023, promoting the Season of the Wish starting at the end of the month, the expansion’s release date is still listed as February 24, 2024. However, a recent addition to The Final Shape store page on Bungie’s website states, “Dates and content subject to change.”
A user on X, DestinyBulletin, claims to have captured a screenshot of the store page in September 2023 without this added line, indicating that it might have been recently inserted.
PCGamesN has reached out to Bungie for comment, but as of the publication time, there has been no response. The article will be updated if there are any developments from the studio.
While anticipating The Final Shape, players are encouraged to explore existing content in Destiny 2, such as the reprised Crota’s End raid guide and information on the Destiny 2 weekly reset time and contents.
