As per a report from Dust2.us, Team Liquid is reportedly reuniting with the well-known former Liquid Counter-Strike player, Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken.
In the past, Twistzz played a pivotal role in helping Team Liquid secure an IEM Grand Slam, an esteemed achievement accomplished by winning four Major-tier ESL events within a span of ten events. This North American core of the team became one of the most exceptional rosters in the history of esports on the continent. However, Twistzz departed from the team in 2019 and went on to achieve further success by securing another IEM Grand Slam and a Major victory with an international FaZe Clan lineup.
Twistzz is one of just six players from North America to win a Major, and he is among a select few to have earned two IEM Grand Slams. This places him among the top ten all-time Counter-Strike earners in terms of prize money, according to esportsearnings.com.
The rumored move to bring Twistzz back to Liquid would signify a return to a North American core for the team and a presence in the Americas. Team Liquid had previously transitioned to a European-majority squad earlier in 2023 but faced difficulties and disbandment after just three months due to a series of underwhelming performances as the CS:GO era of competitions drew to a close.
Rumors also suggest that Liquid is in negotiations with former Heroic star AWPer and IGL, CadiaN, and is pursuing other high-profile signings, according to the Dust2.us report. During their hiatus from the North American region, many fans and analysts regarded Complexity as the top team in the region.
Team Liquid recently failed to qualify for IEM Sydney, a significant event in the history of CS2. In the BLAST Fall Showdown, they had their head coach, Damian “daps” Steele, as a stand-in. The team has faced challenges both in their gameplay and management. However, the potential reunion with Twistzz, the most decorated player in North American CS history, signals a positive step forward. While contracts are yet to be finalized, it appears that Liquid is finally making shrewd roster moves.
