Starfield: The Creators Gives Insights About the Game’s Origins

The first episode of Bethesda’s behind-the-scenes look at the development of the upcoming RPG Starfield has been revealed.

The first episode of the series, entitled Into the Starfield features a roundtable discussion between art director Matt Carofano, studio director Angela Browder and game director Todd Howard. They’re discussing the decisions and ambitions that led them down the path of their newest offering.

Browder speaks on how the studio today is almost made up of two distinct groups of developers. There’s the team of veterans who have been working together at BGS for decades, and then there’s the new generation. The latter group grew up on the games the former made, and want to stay true to that same ethos, but also create something new.

Howard even goes back to Morrowind, when the studio asked itself what other worlds it wanted to do. One of those was Fallout, which the studio would get its hands on starting with 2008’s Fallout 3. Science Fiction was next on the slate, taking them another twelve years to get there.

Todd also mentions aspects Bethesda games share that they want to carry over into Starfield. These include the first-person view, being able to interact with almost anything. As an extra tease, Howard also mentions the studio’s signature “step out” moment, such as exiting the Vault for the first time in the Fallout games. In fact, he says that Starfield will feature two of these moments, in a rather cryptic manner.

We’ve still got a while to wait and see what he means by that. For now you can watch the video for yourself down below. Starfield is currently scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on November 11, 2022.
