The Call of Duty League 2022 Rookie Ladder Keeps Changing

Capsidal is vying for first place. Major We witnessed Jimbo make his debut, Capsidal smash the Hardpoint kill record, Nastie clutch and the first 1v4 of the season, and Gismo return from a brief hiatus due to personal reasons in the second qualification.

The top three are still standing strong from our last Call of Duty ladder, with one small change; Capsidal has moved up to second and bumped Nastie down to third, and Gismo is holding firming onto the first place spot by a single vote.

Moving down to the fourth and fifth position is the Surge rookie duo Sib and Pred, who were also only separated by a single vote. Sib looked himself again during their recent matches, finishing the split with a 1.10 kill/death ratio, and Pred has continued to stay consistent with a 1.05 kill/death ratio over their last five matches.

On the other side, Nero is still having consistency issues and moved down one spot, to sixth place. He averaged a 0.88 kill/death ratio over Boston’s last five matches, but also almost tied the Hardpoint kill record, just a week after his rookie duo Capsidal set it at 54.

Fortunately for Davpadie, he’s no longer last thanks to Jimbo and GRVTY. Mutineers are struggling to piece everything together this season, they’re still showing huge pace issues within the core of their playstyle, and Davpadie likely won’t get much love from our voting panel until this is fixed.

For our last two spots, and to no one’s surprise, Jimbo has landed at ninth place on the ladder after he finished the qualifiers with a 0.78 kill/death ratio, and his teammate GRVTY is just above him at the eighth position.

Here are our rookie rankings following the first Major of the 2022 CDL season.

9) Bryan “Jimbo” Sabman

  • Last ladder: –
  • Team standings: 12th (2-10)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 0.78
  • Since the last ladder: –

Jimbo has had one of the worst debuts in Call of Duty League history. Over his first five matches in the league, he’s averaging the third-lowest kill/death ratio. The only two players lower than him are Royalty, who is no longer in the league, and Spart, who only played one series against OpTic Texas over the weekend.

It wasn’t all horrible for Jimbo though, in Paris Legion’s win against Toronto Ultra, Jimbo finished with the most kills in the match, the second-highest damage, and had 20 kills over both Search and Destroy maps.

GRVTY’s long-awaited professional debut finally arrived during Major One. In his first career match, he helped Paris Legion secure their very first victory of the season against Seattle Surge and finished with 91 kills and a 1.13 kill/death ratio throughout five maps.

Heading into Major Two this weekend, Paris will start in the elimination bracket on Saturday and will play the loser of Florida Mutineers and London Royal Ravens, at 3 PM ET.

  • Last ladder: Seventh
  • Team standings: 10th (4-7)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.05
  • Since the last ladder: 1.00

Davpadie technically hasn’t moved since our last ladder, but thanks to Jimbo and GRVTY making their debut, he’s no longer last.https://3ab04efb00672c5432d1b4131142531d.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

Mutineers are still yet to find any rhythm. At times they look incredible and other times they look lost. The franchise finished the qualifiers with a 2-3 record, beating both Subliners and Guerrillas, and losing to FaZe, Breach, and OpTic. During their match against Subliners, Davpadie finished with 1.32 kill/death ratio.

Davpadie’s pace is still questionable, as is the rest of his teammates, and unless they all find themselves on the same page at the same time, this team won’t go anywhere anytime soon.

6) Dylan “Nero” Koch

  • Last ladder: Fifth
  • Team standings: Fourth (8-6)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 0.93
  • Since the last ladder: 0.88

Nero is still having consistency issues in his rookie season, but once he’s locked in, its a scary sight.

Boston Breach took down Toronto Ultra in week two of Major Two qualifiers, and Nero finished with 51 kills on Bocage Hardpoint, just three off tying the Call of Duty League record set by his rookie partner Capsidal only six days earlier. He finished the series with an increcble 110 kills over five maps, and a 1.21 kill/death ratio.

However, looking at Nero’s other four Major Two matches, he’s averaged a 0.77 kill/death ratio and at times has struggled to play at the same pace as his teammates, which might not necessarily be his fault.

5) Amer “Pred” Zulbeari

  • Last ladder: Fourth
  • Team standings: Eighth (5-7)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.01
  • Since the last ladder: 1.05

The Australian has unfortunately fallen one spot this ladder and was shifted down to fifth thanks to Sib, though only by a single vote.

In Seattle’s final match of the Major Two qualifiers, Pred finished with a 1.25 kill/death ratio and a team high 85 kills, which helped seal the 3-1 victory against the struggling Los Angeles Thieves.

Seattle Surge will again face OpTic Texas in their first-round matchup this weekend. The two franchises have already matched up twice this season, and OpTic came out victorious on both occasions.

4) Daunte “Sib” Gray

  • Last ladder: Sixth
  • Team standings: Eighth (5-7)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.04
  • Since the last ladder: 1.10

Sib has had a rollercoaster of a season so far. He looked like an MVP candidate during the pre-season Kick Off Classic but went on to struggle during Major One and ultimately placed 9th-12th at the tournament.

Moving into Major Two qualifiers, Sib looked like himself again, he averaged a 1.10 kill/death ratio over their five matches, they beat Atlanta FaZe and Los Angeles Thieves, but unfortunately lost to OpTic, the Breach, and the Guerrillas.

Their first match-up in the Major Two tournament will be against the Major One champs OpTic. The loser of that match will face Minnesota RØKKR in the elimination bracket.

3) Byron “Nastie” Plumridge

  • Last ladder: Second
  • Team standings: Third (10-4)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.00
  • Since the last ladder: 1.01

Nastie has been solid since the beginning of the season. He’s dropped one place due to Capsidal playing incredibly over the last three weeks, but the European’s gameplay hasn’t changed a bit.

In week one of Major Two qualifiers, Nastie finished a 1.38 kill/death ratio against Los Angeles Thieves, which included a match-high 76 kills and 9,422 over three maps.

During their next match against Paris Legion, Nastie completed the very first 1v4 of the season, something that was only completed once during Cold War last year.

2) Kenyen “Capsidal” Sutton

  • Last ladder: Third
  • Team standings: Fourth (8-6)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.03
  • Since the last ladder: 1.11

Capsidal is quickly making an argument for the rookie of the year title. He’s jumped from fifth on our first ladder, to third, and is now sitting at second with only one single vote separating him from the top spot.

During Boston Breach’s week one match against Seattle Surge, Capsidal dropped 54 kills on Bocage Hardpoint, which is a Call of Duty League kill record, and he finished the series with a 1.47 kill/death ratio, with 100 kills in four maps.

His strong suit is still Search and Destroy, where he ranks fourth in kill/death ratio and third in kills per round, however, his Control woes still continue, ranking bottom of the league in all three categories. If we see an improvement in that game-mode, and Boston Breach place high at Major Two, there’s no doubt he’ll top the next ladder.

1) Joey “Gismo” Owen

  • Last ladder: First
  • Team standings: Third (10-4)
  • Season kill/death ratio: 1.01
  • Since the last ladder: 1.04

Gismo has again held onto the top spot on the rookie ladder dispute sitting out two matches.

He took a short break at the start of week one qualifiers for Major Two, and later returned to the starting line-up the next week. His first match back he found himself down 0-2 to Paris Legion, but fortunately completed a reverse sweep and secured the victory with his team. Gismo finished the series with a team high 84 kills, 10,756 damage, and a 1.02 kill/death ratio.

London’s Major Two tournament will begin on Friday against Florida Mutineers, Gismo will have to turn it up to notch if he wants to hold on to his number one spot on the ladder.
